Automatic Stud Welding Machine for Industrial Production

AUTOMATIC WELDING BENCHES

Advanced CNC stud welding system for accurate and repeatable capacitor discharge stud welding, designed to improve manufacturing efficiency, flexibility and process control.

Choosing the right stud welding system is not only about selecting a welding machine. For many manufacturers, the real challenge is achieving consistent fixing quality across different components while keeping production flexible, efficient and easy to control.

When stud welding becomes a repetitive operation involving high production volumes, multiple fixing points or strict quality requirements, manual processes can create unnecessary variation. An automatic stud welding machine helps manufacturers standardise the process, improve repeatability and maintain consistent results from the first component to the last.

ATS supports companies looking to introduce or improve automated stud welding within their production environment. Rather than offering a one-size-fits-all approach, ATS provides technical consultancy to help identify the most suitable configuration based on component geometry, materials, production targets and the level of automation required.

The Series V CNC stud welding machine has been developed for industrial applications where accuracy, flexibility and reliable cycle performance are essential. The system is suitable for manufacturers working with sheet metal components, fabricated structures and assemblies where welded studs provide a fast and effective alternative to traditional fastening methods.

Using capacitor discharge stud welding technology, the system creates strong welded joints with minimal heat transfer into the base material. This makes it particularly suitable for applications where maintaining surface quality, dimensional accuracy and component appearance is important.

The process can be used for welding threaded studs, plain studs and customised fastening elements on materials including mild steel, stainless steel, aluminium, galvanised sheet metal and other industrial alloys.

For production environments such as electrical enclosures, control cabinets, metal fabrication, industrial equipment, energy systems, lifting and access equipment, electronics and general engineering, an automated stud welding solution can help improve throughput while reducing dependence on manual operations.

One of the key reasons manufacturers move towards automated stud welding is improved process stability. A CNC-controlled system allows welding positions, sequences and parameters to be managed digitally, helping operators achieve repeatable results even when components contain many fixing points or when production runs are repeated over long periods.

The Series V can be configured around the actual manufacturing requirement. Available working areas include 1000 × 1500 mm, 1000 × 2250 mm and 1500 × 3000 mm, with customised layouts available for applications requiring different dimensions or special production arrangements.

Machine rigidity is essential for maintaining accuracy during industrial operation. The welded steel structure provides a stable platform, while the zero point free mechanical design helps minimise mechanical play and simplifies preparation when changing between different production batches.

The working surface has been designed for practical manufacturing use, combining T-slot aluminium plates with insulated laminate surfaces. This arrangement allows flexible component positioning while maintaining electrical insulation and resistance to continuous industrial use.

Movement accuracy is achieved through dynamic servo motors and precision linear axes using screw or belt transmission systems. The result is smooth positioning, reliable operation and repeatable welding accuracy, with positioning precision up to ±0.2 mm.

Depending on the production requirements, the machine can be equipped with one to four automatic welding heads. This flexibility allows manufacturers to increase productivity on components requiring multiple welded studs while maintaining a compact and efficient production setup.

The system is suitable for stud diameters from 3 to 12 mm, with additional solutions available for specialised applications. The correct configuration depends on several technical factors, including component size, material, number of welds required and expected production volumes.

Programming and production management are simplified through the PRO-STUD software. DXF file import allows component layouts to be transferred directly into the machine system, reducing preparation time and making it easier to manage different production references.

For manufacturers requiring higher levels of quality control, the system can monitor essential welding parameters including current, voltage and welding time. Additional measurement functions can verify stud movement and provide further control over the welding cycle.

Recorded process data can be compared with defined reference values to identify deviations and support consistent quality management. Extended data storage options are available for applications where production traceability and documentation are important requirements.

The value of an automatic stud welding machine is not limited to speed. By reducing manual intervention, improving repeatability and lowering the risk of rework, automation can contribute to a more efficient production process and a lower cost per finished component.

ATS works alongside manufacturers throughout the entire project, from initial application assessment through system configuration, integration support and after-sales assistance. This approach helps companies select a reliable stud welding solution that matches their production objectives today and can adapt to future requirements.

For manufacturers looking to improve fixing quality, increase production consistency and introduce a more controlled welding process, the Series V provides a flexible platform for modern industrial stud welding applications.
