AUTOMATIC WELDING GUNS

FOR CAPACITOR DISCHARGE AND ARC WELDING ON THIN SHEET METAL WITHOUT MARKS OR DEFORMATIONS

Automatic stud welding guns are designed for applications where threaded studs, internally threaded bushes and other metal components need to be welded quickly and consistently onto sheet metal or industrial parts. They are used with capacitor discharge and arc welding systems, particularly in production environments where accurate positioning, repeatable results and a reliable welding cycle are essential.

For automated production, the welding gun can be connected to an automatic feeding system such as the VBZ stud feeder, allowing studs to be supplied continuously without manual loading between welds. Where greater flexibility is required, the same type of equipment can be used in a semi-automatic configuration, with the operator manually loading each stud. The most suitable setup depends on the component, production volume and required degree of automation.

One of the main advantages of capacitor discharge stud welding is its very short welding time and limited heat input. This makes the process particularly suitable for applications involving thin sheet metal, where controlling heat transfer can help minimise deformation and visible marks on the reverse side of the workpiece. The actual result depends on the stud, base material, sheet thickness and welding parameters, which should be assessed together when selecting the equipment.

Automatic welding guns can also be integrated into CNC equipment, robotic cells and other automated production systems. Depending on the configuration, process monitoring and control functions can be used to manage relevant welding parameters and support consistent cycle performance. This makes automatic stud welding a practical solution for repetitive industrial operations where stable positioning and process repeatability are important.

ATS Lamberti supplies automatic stud welding guns and provides technical advice to identify the most suitable configuration for each application. The selection takes into account the welding process, stud type and dimensions, base material, sheet thickness, feeding system and automation requirements. ATS can also support customers with integration into new or existing equipment, together with technical assistance and after-sales support throughout the use of the welding solution.
