Drawn arc stud welding is a process used to securely join a metal threaded stud to a metal surface. It is widely used in industrial applications because it creates strong, reliable, and long-lasting connections.
The process is carried out using a dedicated welding system equipped with a welding gun. When activated, the gun generates an electric arc that melts both the tip of the stud and the surface beneath it at the same time.
This creates a weld pool, which is held in place by a ceramic ferrule. The ferrule helps contain the molten metal and ensures a clean, consistent weld, resulting in a high-quality and durable joint.
In the long arc cycle welding process, the welding stud or pin is joined by an electric arc that generates enough heat to melt both the base material and the fastener. The resulting molten pool is either contained by a ceramic ferrule or left exposed and protected by an inert gas, which is automatically supplied through a protective positioner mounted on the welding gun.
Short arc cycle welding, on the other hand, produces the electric arc in just a few milliseconds. Because of the extremely short welding time, much less material is melted compared to the long arc process.
